Primary Eye Care

PRIMARY EYE CARE includes a comprehensive vision and eye health examination.  This examination is designed to detect a wide range of problems affecting visual function, such as blurred vision or eye discomfort.

Evaluations for eye health disorders are also performed. The American Optometric Association recommends that all people should have a periodic, comprehensive eye examination every one to two years depending on one's particular needs.

Examinations include tests for glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and the ocular effects of many general health disorders such as diabetes and high blood pressure, as well as effects of medications.

A dilated pupil examination allows us to provide the best assessment of eye health.  It is recommended for all new patients and on a scheduled basis thereafter.

Technology Integrated Practice

Here at our office we incorporate computerized technology to assist in the evaluation of spectacle prescriptions, peripheral vision, intraocular pressure, and eye health. Computerized examination instruments are used to supplement rather than replace personalized care.  With our Electronic Medical Records (EMR) software we have been able to increase the time spent with the doctor thereby enabling us to perform a more thorough examination.

Cirrus HD-OCT

Cirrus HD-OCT

This new high-performance OCT instrument from Carl Zeiss Meditec offers a quantum leap forward. Featuring spectral domain technology, Cirrus HD-OCT delivers exquisite high-definition images of the ocular structures. High Definition data acquisition and advanced analysis provide precise registration and excellent reproducibility critical for glaucoma detection and management.

TRS-51003D-Wave Digital Eye-Chart            Marco TRS-5100 & 3D-Wave

The 3D-Wave combines advanced technologies into one easy-to-use refractive diagnostic workstation.  Now, with a single device, we can obtain refraction, corneal topography, optical path difference (OPD) and wavefront analysis.   When used in conjuction with the TRS-5100 the refraction that the patient experiences is a joy instead of stress.  This advanced technoloy results in a more accurate refraction in less time and without the laborious process of innumerable options of "which is better, one or two".  You will see better than ever before and enjoy the process of getting there!

Matirx Visual Field

Humphrey - Matrix Visual Field

The Matrix Perimeter utilizes Frequency Doubling Technology.  It represents a significant breakthrough in visual field testing by combining detection of early visual field loss and basic glaucoma management tools.  Visual field testing is a basic element in the standard of care for glaucoma management.

HFA II-i

Humphrey - HFA II-i Visual Field

Validated by decades of research and clinical experience, HFA is the accepted standard of care in glaucoma diagnosis and management.  HFA has the widest range of testing protocols on any perimeter. The ergonomic design promotes maximum comfort and patient access.

TRC-NW6S Retinal Camera

Topcon TRC-NW6S Retinal Camera

In this age of rapid advances in digital and electronic technology, Topcon's TRC-NW6S leads the field with the versatile non-mydriatic retinal camera.  Two of the most common causes of blindness are glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.  It is important to identify these disorders in their early stages and track them over time.  Therefore, quick and convenient screening and diagnosis of the retina during normal examination of patients contributes greatly to reducing the incidence of blindness.

Ocular Response Analyzer

Reichert Ocular Response Analyzer

The Ocular Response Analyzer utilizes a rapid air impulse, and an advanced electro-optical system to record two applanation pressure measurements; one while the cornea is moving inward, and the other as the cornea returns. Due to its biomechanical properties, the cornea resists the dynamic air puff causing delays in the inward and outward applanation events, resulting in two different pressure values:Wave Form

The average of these two pressure values provides a repeatable, Goldmann-correlated IOP measurement (IOPG). The difference between these two pressure values is Corneal Hysteresis (CH); a new measurement of corneal tissue properties that is a result of viscous damping in the corneal tissue. The ability to measure this effect is the key to understanding the biomechanical properties of the cornea.

The CH measurement also provides a basis for two additional new parameters: Corneal-Compensated Intraocular Pressure (IOPCC) and Corneal Resistance Factor (CRF). IOPCC is an Intraocular Pressure measurement that is less affected by corneal properties than other methods of tonometry, such as Goldmann (GAT). CRF appears to be an indicator of the overall resistance of the cornea.
